Are you Struggling With Losing Weight?
The purpose of this study is to find out whether an experimental medication helps people living with obesity, to lose weight.
This is a Phase IIb study that will explore the efficacy, safety and tolerability of AZD2634 in participants living with obesity or overweight with at least one weight-related comorbidity, when treated up to 36 weeks with the investigational medication.

As a volunteer in a research study, you’ll receive study-related medical care from the study doctor and regular follow-up of your health to monitor the effectiveness of the care you’ll receive. The results of this research will be used to find out if the investigational medication being studied will be of benefit to others struggling with obesity and weight loss, and whether it will be made widely available to all Canadians trying to manage obesity. Study volunteers are an important part of moving medical care forward.
You may qualify to participate in this study if you:
- Are between the ages of 18 and 75 inclusive, with suitable veins for cannulation or repeated venipuncture
- Have a Body Mass Index (BMI):
- greater than or equal to 30 kg/m^2 inclusive, or
- greater than or equal to 27 kg/m^2 and at least one of the following comorbidities (with documented medical history or currently being treated for):
- Hypertension
- Dyslipidemia or hyperlipidemia
- CV disease
- Obstructive sleep apnea
- Have had a stable body weight for 3 months prior to screening (+ or – 5% body weight change)
- Agree to refrain from blood donation throughout the study, including the follow-up period
You may not qualify to participate if you:
- Have obesity induced by other endocrine disorders, such as Cushing’s syndrome or Peter-Willi syndrome
- Have received prescription or non-prescription medication for weight loss within the last 3 months prior to screening
- Have had previous or planned bariatric surgery or fitting of a weight loss device
- Have a history of type 1 or type 2 diabetes
- Have been treated with diabetes medication in the past 3 months prior to screening
- Suffer from gastroparesis requiring treatment
- Have significant inflammatory bowel disease or other severe disease or surgery affecting the upper GI tract which may affect gastric emptying
- Have any significant hepatobiliary disease
- Have severely uncontrolled hypertension
- Display any clinically important abnormalities in heart rhythm
- Have experienced unstable angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, transient ischemic attack or stroke within 6 months prior to screening
- Have experiences severe congestive heart failure, or have recently been hospitalized due to heart failure
- Have a history of psychosis or bipolar disorder
- Have a history of major depressive disorder within the past 2 years
- Have uncontrolled thyroid disease
There are other eligibility requirements that the study doctor will review. Only the study doctor can finally determine whether you are eligible to participate in the study or not.
