A recent survey by ixlayer and Ipsos reveals that patients expect pharmaceutical companies to do more than just develop medications—they want digital tools to improve healthcare access. Over 400 adults with chronic conditions like asthma, diabetes, and heart disease participated in the study, with nearly 75% saying they would welcome more support from drugmakers in overcoming healthcare barriers.
The demand for digital healthcare tools is clear. More than 80% of respondents believe pharmaceutical companies should provide resources that make care and treatment more accessible. Many have already adopted digital health solutions, with 86% using platforms such as telehealth services, wearable health trackers, pharmacy deliveries, and online patient portals.
Despite the benefits, patients report frustrations with using multiple platforms and facing technical challenges. This opens the door for pharmaceutical companies to streamline digital healthcare services. The survey found that 92% of respondents would have a more favorable view of the industry if companies provided reliable online health tools.
Patients want digital services that simplify their healthcare experience. Desired features include virtual and in-person appointment scheduling, online pharmacy orders, easier lab test access, secure health data sharing, and comprehensive insurance coverage for digital services. More than 70% of respondents said they would likely use these offerings.
Leading pharmaceutical companies are already making moves in this space. Eli Lilly launched LillyDirect, a platform connecting patients with doctors and offering lower-cost medications for conditions like diabetes and Alzheimer’s. Pfizer introduced PfizerForAll, providing vaccine finders, test ordering, and AI-powered health advice.
The message is clear: patients expect pharmaceutical companies to provide seamless, digital-first healthcare solutions. As the industry evolves, those who invest in user-friendly digital services will earn greater trust and engagement from the public.
