Cooking food together with kids lets you share food and cooking traditions and important food skills. If your kids get cooking now, chances are they will keep up this good habit as they grow older. Why not try out this recipe from UnlockFood.ca and have some fun in the kitchen with your loved ones while you’re at it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ABC123 pancakes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fruit Sauce<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Mix 3\/4 cup frozen berries (raspberries and\/or blueberries) with 1\/3 cup maple syrup. By the time the pancakes are on the table, the fruit should be defrosted. You can also warm it up in the microwave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pancakes<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Try mixing half multi-grain pancake mix (sold at bulk food stores) with your regular mix. You could also add 3-4 tablespoons (45-60 mL) of quick-cooking oats per cup of pancake mix. You may need to add a little more milk to maintain the right consistency. Make pancake letters, numbers and even shapes. Make and freeze extra for a quick breakfast or snack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For younger children:<\/strong> Talk about where the berries and maple syrup in the fruit sauce come from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For older children:\u00a0<\/strong>Talk about how maple syrup is made. You may be able to get a book about this at your library. Ask your children to tell you the food groups for each ingredient in the recipe.
