Based on these findings, the company plans to move the drug into large <strong>Phase 3 trials<\/strong> later this year.<\/p>\n<article><strong>CT-388<\/strong> is a <strong>once-weekly injectable medication<\/strong> that targets two hormones involved in appetite and metabolism, known as\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/books\/NBK551568\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GLP-1<\/a> <\/strong>and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC6400241\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GIP<\/a><\/strong>. These hormones help regulate <strong>blood sugar<\/strong> and reduce <strong>hunger<\/strong>. In the completed <strong>Phase 2 study<\/strong>, investigators tested three different doses of the drug in <strong>469 adults<\/strong> who were obese or overweight, comparing results to a placebo.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>highest dose<\/strong> produced the greatest weight loss. Nearly <strong>96%<\/strong> of participants on this dose lost at least <strong>5% of their body weight<\/strong>, and about <strong>26%<\/strong> lost more than <strong>30%<\/strong>. Importantly, researchers did not observe weight loss slowing by the end of the <strong>48-week study<\/strong>, suggesting patients could continue to benefit from the medication over an extended period of time.<\/p>\n<p>The results place <strong>CT-388<\/strong> in a similar effectiveness range to leading <strong>GLP-1 weight loss drugs<\/strong> already on the market, including\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lilly.com\/news\/stories\/zepbound-tirzepatide-obesity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zepbound<\/a> <\/strong>from <strong>Eli Lilly<\/strong>. Roche also reported that the drug was <strong>generally well tolerated<\/strong>; most side effects were <strong>mild to moderate digestive issues<\/strong>, which are common with this class of medications. Fewer than <strong>6%<\/strong> of patients stopped treatment due to side effects, compared to just over <strong>1%<\/strong> in the placebo group.<\/p>\n<p>Roche plans to begin <strong>two Phase 3 obesity studies<\/strong> soon and is exploring ways to <strong>improve tolerability<\/strong> further by combining <strong>CT-388<\/strong> with other treatments.
