Eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis, is a chronic skin condition that usually begins in childhood. Eczema is a common problem affecting 15 – 30% of children and 2 – 10% of adults. Chronic eczema causes people to lose sleep, affecting their school and work performance. It can also lead to irritability, generalised stress, and overall decreased quality of life.
Eczema cannot be cured, but it can be controlled with treatment. Because eczema is a chronic condition requiring long-term treatment, it is important to continue the search for better and safer treatments. Only through research can such treatments be discovered.
