Did you know that hot flashes are the most common discomfort linked to menopause? And that they can continue for up to 5 years or more?
Hot flashes are sudden feelings of heat, mostly on the face and upper body. They may cause sweating, rapid heartbeat, and reddening of the skin (as though you are blushing). Hot flashes generally last between 4 to 10 minutes and are often followed by a feeling of being chilled.
Night sweats are hot flashes that occur at night resulting in heavy sweating, often disrupting sleep. The sweat may be heavy enough to soak through nightclothes.
Some women may experience only minor discomfort from hot flashes while for other women, hot flashes can significantly impact on quality of life.
