There are several conditions that can affect your bladder, the organ that stores urine. Some common ones are urinary incontinence and nocturia.
Urinary Incontinence
Urinary incontinence, also known as bladder leakage or lack of bladder control, is a common condition that affects both men and women - but is more commonly seen in women. There are different forms of urinary incontinence.
- Stress incontinence is the most common form, affecting up to 60% of women. It occurs when normal daily activities such as laughing, coughing, sneezing, or exercising results in leakage of urine.
- Urge incontinence, also known as Overactive Bladder (OAB), occurs when you experience an urge to urinate that's so sudden and strong you may not be able to get to a toilet in time.
Many people experience mixed incontinence, which is a combination of the two forms described above.
Nocturia
If you regularly must go to the bathroom more than once during the night, you might have nocturia. There are many underlying causes of nocturia, once of which is the production of excess urine at night.
